Advertising Packages turn the Credits used by WaypointAds into products that your advertisers can purchase. Rather than asking an advertiser to buy individual Impressions or Clicks every time they want to run a Campaign, you can offer clearly defined Packages containing a quantity of Advertising Credits at a price you establish.

This gives both sides a much simpler arrangement. The advertiser knows what the Package costs and how many Credits will be added to their Wallet, while WaypointAds uses those Credits to pay for advertising activity according to the rates you have established for your Zones.

Packages are a Commercial Edition feature and are managed by selecting Packages from the WaypointAds Administrator navigation.

### Understanding Packages and Credits

Before creating a Package, it is useful to separate two related ideas.

A Package is what you sell. Advertising Credits are what the advertiser receives.

For example, you might create a Package costing $50 that provides 30,000 Advertising Credits. When an advertiser purchases that Package, the Credits are added to their Wallet and become available for Campaign activity.

The actual rate at which those Credits are consumed is determined elsewhere by your advertising configuration. This allows you to change the value and attractiveness of Packages without having to create an entirely different advertising system for every customer.

### Creating a Package

The Create Advertising Package panel is divided into three sections:

1. **General** defines what the Package is and how it is presented.
2. **Value** determines the Package's price and Advertising Credits.
3. **Purchase & Renewal** controls purchasing and any benefits available when the Package is renewed.

Together, these settings allow you to create anything from a simple introductory Package to a larger offering containing bonus Credits and renewal incentives.

### General Package Information

Begin on the General tab by giving the Package a name.

Choose something advertisers can understand immediately. Names such as Bronze, Silver and Gold work well because they make the relationship between different levels easy to recognize, but WaypointAds does not require any particular naming convention.

The Alias can be generated automatically, while the Short Description gives you space for a concise explanation of the Package. A Full Description is also available when additional information is appropriate.

The Package can be set to Published or unpublished, and the Ordering field determines its relative position among your other Packages.

### Featured Packages

The Featured option allows one of your Packages to receive additional prominence when Packages are presented to advertisers. This can be useful when you have several offerings but want to draw attention to the one representing your preferred choice or particularly good value.

Featured status does not change the Package's Credits or price. It simply identifies the Package as one you wish to emphasize.

We will look more closely at how Packages are presented to advertisers when we reach The Rate Card Tutorial.

### Setting the Package Value

The Value settings determine what the advertiser receives for purchasing the Package. This is where you establish the Package price and the number of Advertising Credits that will be deposited into the advertiser's Wallet following a successful purchase.

WaypointAds also allows you to include Bonus Credits. This makes it possible to advertise a Package as containing a base allocation plus an additional incentive.

***For example***, a Package might contain 125,000 standard Credits together with 25,000 bonus Credits, giving the advertiser 150,000 Credits in total. Bonus Credits can make larger Packages more attractive without requiring you to alter the underlying rates charged by your advertising Zones.

### Building a Package Structure

There is no requirement to offer only one Package.

You can create several Packages at different price points, allowing advertisers to choose an amount appropriate to their needs and budget. A smaller Package might provide an inexpensive entry point, while larger Packages can provide progressively better value through additional Credits or bonuses.

The example shown here uses Bronze, Silver and Gold Packages, with each level providing a different combination of price and Credits.

The important consideration is not the names themselves but the progression. Advertisers should be able to understand why they might choose one Package rather than another.

### Renewal Incentives

WaypointAds can also encourage advertisers to continue advertising by offering benefits when an eligible Package is renewed. A renewable Package can include a renewal discount, reducing the price paid when the advertiser purchases it again. You can also provide renewal bonus Credits, giving returning advertisers additional advertising value.

These incentives can be used independently or together.

***For example***, an advertiser renewing a Package might receive a percentage discount on the purchase price as well as additional Credits deposited into their Wallet.

This gives you a practical way to reward repeat business without manually adjusting every returning advertiser's account.

### Complimentary Packages

Not every Package has to involve a monetary purchase.

WaypointAds also supports Complimentary Packages, allowing you to provide Advertising Credits without charging the advertiser. One particularly useful application is a one-time introductory Package that lets a new advertiser experience the system before committing to a paid Package. A complimentary offering might provide enough Credits for the advertiser to create a Campaign, submit a Creative and see genuine results from advertising on your website.

Because complimentary advertising has real value, it should normally be configured with clear limits. It is an introduction to your advertising service, not an invitation to establish permanent residence at the free buffet.

### Packages and the Advertiser Wallet

When an advertiser successfully obtains a Package, its Advertising Credits are added to their Wallet.

Those Credits become available to fund Campaign activity. As billable advertising occurs, WaypointAds deducts the appropriate Credits according to the rates associated with the advertising being delivered.

This creates a straightforward cycle:

**Purchase Package → Receive Advertising Credits → Run Campaigns → Credits are consumed → Purchase or renew when more are needed.**

The advertiser can monitor the remaining Wallet balance from the Advertiser Portal, so there is no need for the Administrator to manually report how much advertising remains.

### Packages Are Not the Same as Gifts

It is worth distinguishing Packages from the Gift Advertising Credits facility discussed in the Advertiser Portal Tutorial. A Package is a defined advertising offering. It has its own configuration and may have a purchase price, bonus Credits and renewal benefits.

A Gift is an Administrator action that adds Credits directly to a particular advertiser's Wallet, optionally accompanied by a message explaining why they were given.

Both ultimately increase the advertiser's available Credits, but they serve different purposes and remain separately identifiable within WaypointAds.

### Managing Existing Packages

The Advertising Packages panel provides an overview of the Packages you have already created. At a glance, the Administrator can see each Package's price, total Credits, bonus Credits, renewal arrangements and publication status. Existing Packages can be Edited when their configuration needs to change or Deleted when they are no longer required.

This makes the Packages area the central administrative location for maintaining the products you offer to advertisers.

### Published and Unpublished Packages

The Published setting determines whether a Package is currently available to advertisers. This allows you to prepare a new Package before offering it, temporarily withdraw an existing Package or retire an older offering without immediately deleting its configuration. Unpublishing a Package prevents new purchases; it does not undo advertising that has already been purchased.

This distinction becomes particularly important when you make changes to your advertising Zones. An advertiser who purchased a Package and began advertising under a particular set of rates and conditions is entitled to the terms that applied to that original purchase. Changing a Zone's pricing later should affect future advertising arrangements, not unexpectedly rewrite the agreement already made with an existing advertiser.

***WaypointAds protects both the advertiser and the Administrator*** by preserving the original terms of the sale. When relevant Zone settings change, existing purchased advertising continues according to the terms under which it was acquired, while the updated settings can be applied to future purchases. The Administrator can therefore adjust pricing and develop the advertising program over time without accidentally changing the deal already made with existing customers.

In practical terms, you are free to revise your advertising offerings as your website grows. WaypointAds keeps the old agreement where it belongs—with the original sale—and lets the new terms govern the business you conduct going forward.

### Designing Packages That Make Sense

WaypointAds gives you considerable freedom when determining Package prices and Credit allocations, but simpler is usually better.

A small selection of clearly differentiated Packages is generally easier for an advertiser to understand than a wall of nearly identical choices. Each Package should have an obvious reason for existing—perhaps a lower entry price, a larger Credit allocation, better bonus value or stronger renewal benefits.

The goal is to let an advertiser look at the available choices and quickly determine which Package suits them.

### From Packages to the Rate Card

Creating Packages establishes what you are prepared to sell. The next step is deciding how those advertising opportunities are presented to prospective advertisers.

That is where the Rate Card enters the picture.

In the next Tutorial, we will look specifically at the WaypointAds Rate Card, how your advertising opportunities are presented, and how the information you have configured throughout WaypointAds comes together for the customer.
