What Is a Package?
A Package is an advertising product that provides an advertiser with a quantity of advertising credits.
By default, WaypointAds refers to these credits as Skerricks, although administrators are free to choose any name that better suits their website or business. Whether you call them Credits, Tokens, Points, or something entirely different, they all serve the same purpose—they represent the advertising value available to the advertiser.
Rather than purchasing individual advertising locations, advertisers purchase a Package containing a number of credits that can be used throughout your website.
Why Use Packages?
Traditional advertising systems often require separate pricing for every advertising location.
WaypointAds takes a different approach.
Each advertising Zone is assigned a value by the administrator, reflecting its importance, visibility, or demand. Advertisers then decide how they wish to spend the credits included in their Package.
This approach keeps pricing simple while giving advertisers greater flexibility in how they use their advertising budget.
How Packages Work
The process is straightforward.
- The administrator creates one or more Packages containing a fixed number of advertising credits.
- Each advertising Zone is assigned its own credit value.
- An advertiser purchases a Package.
- The advertiser creates Campaigns and chooses where advertisements will appear.
- As advertisements are displayed, the appropriate number of credits is deducted automatically from the advertiser's remaining balance.
When the available credits have been used, the advertising campaign simply pauses until additional credits are purchased or assigned.
Flexible Advertising
Because Packages provide advertising value rather than access to specific Zones, advertisers can decide how best to use their available credits.
For example, an advertiser might choose to spend more credits on premium homepage advertising for a short period, or use fewer credits over a longer period by selecting advertising locations with lower values.
This flexibility allows advertising campaigns to adapt as business needs change without requiring administrators to redesign their pricing structure.
Creating Packages
Creating a Package is straightforward.
Simply create a new Package, give it a descriptive name, assign the number of advertising credits it contains, and publish it.
Packages can then be offered to advertisers as part of your website's advertising opportunities.
Benefits of Packages
Packages provide several important advantages:
- Advertising is easier to understand.
- Pricing is simpler to manage.
- Premium advertising locations naturally carry greater value.
- Advertisers have the freedom to choose how their credits are used.
- Administrators can adjust Zone values without redesigning every advertising product.
This creates a flexible advertising system that grows naturally with your website.
Best Practices
We recommend:
- Give every Package a clear, descriptive name.
- Offer Packages containing different quantities of advertising credits.
- Review Zone values periodically as your website evolves.
- Keep your pricing structure simple and consistent.
- Explain how advertising credits are used so advertisers understand the value they are receiving.
Well-designed Packages make purchasing advertising straightforward while giving both administrators and advertisers the flexibility to adapt to changing requirements.
Looking Ahead
Packages are designed to simplify advertising, not complicate it.
By separating advertising value from advertising locations, WaypointAds gives administrators complete control over pricing while allowing advertisers the freedom to decide how and where their advertising budget is spent. It's a flexible approach that works equally well for small community websites and large commercial publications.
