What Is an Advertiser?
An Advertiser is the person, business, or organization whose advertisements you manage in WaypointAds.
Think of an Advertiser as the owner of one or more advertising campaigns. Whether you're managing advertisements for local businesses, national companies, non-profit organizations, or even your own website, every campaign belongs to an Advertiser.
Creating Advertisers keeps your advertising organized and makes it easy to see who owns each campaign, creative, and advertisement.
Why Do I Need an Advertiser?
Even if you're the only person advertising on your website, creating an Advertiser is worthwhile.
As your website grows, you may add more campaigns, more businesses, or seasonal promotions. Organizing everything under Advertisers makes the entire advertising system easier to manage and prevents information from becoming scattered.
Another useful feature is the ability to associate an Advertiser with an existing Joomla User account. While this does not grant the user any additional access or permissions in the Core Edition, it provides a convenient way for administrators to identify the primary contact for that advertiser.
This can be especially helpful on websites managed by multiple staff members, where different administrators are responsible for different advertisers. By linking an Advertiser to a Joomla User, it's easy to see who the primary contact is without affecting the way WaypointAds operates.
What Information Can Be Stored?
Each Advertiser record allows you to store useful contact information, including details such as:
- Business or organization name
- Contact person
- Email address
- Website address
- Notes for your own reference
Not every field needs to be completed. Add as much or as little information as is appropriate for the advertiser you're managing.
Creating an Advertiser
Creating an Advertiser is straightforward.
Simply open the Advertisers manager and select New. Enter the available information, review your entries, and save the record.
Once the Advertiser has been created, it becomes available whenever you create a new Campaign.
Editing an Advertiser
Advertiser information can be updated at any time.
Businesses change email addresses, websites are redesigned, and contact people come and go. Editing an Advertiser simply updates the stored information without affecting the campaigns that belong to that Advertiser.
Deleting an Advertiser
Before deleting an Advertiser, consider whether there are campaigns that still belong to it.
If an Advertiser is no longer required, remove or reassign any associated campaigns before deleting the Advertiser record. This helps maintain an organized advertising system and avoids accidentally removing information that is still in use.
Best Practices
A little organization goes a long way. We recommend:
- Create one Advertiser for each business or organization.
- Use clear, recognizable business names.
- Keep contact information up to date.
- Add notes whenever they may be useful in the future.
- Avoid creating duplicate Advertiser records for the same business.
Good organization at the Advertiser level makes everything else in WaypointAds easier to manage.
What Comes Next?
Once you've created an Advertiser, you're ready to create your first Campaign.
Campaigns define what an advertiser wants to promote, when advertisements appear, and how they are managed throughout your website.
