The Next Steps using WaypointAds
- Details
You have reached the end of the WaypointAds Commercial tutorial, which means it is probably time to stop reading about advertising management and start managing some advertising. By now, you should have a working understanding of how the major parts of WaypointAds fit together, from Advertisers and Packages to Campaigns, Creatives, Zones, Advertising Credits and Wallets. More importantly, you should understand the journey your customers will follow as they purchase advertising, submit their material and begin promoting their businesses through your website.
There is no single “correct” way to operate WaypointAds. A small community website with three advertising positions has very different requirements from a busy publication offering numerous Zones, Packages and pricing options. Start with an advertising program that makes sense for your website today. You can add Zones, introduce new Packages, adjust prices and make greater use of WaypointAds' advanced features as your advertising business develops. There is no prize for creating seventeen Packages before your first advertiser arrives.
Become Your Own First Customer
Before inviting paying advertisers into the system, it is worth experiencing WaypointAds from their side. Create a test advertiser account, purchase or assign a Package, add Advertising Credits, create a Campaign and submit a Creative. Follow the approval process and examine the emails, Dashboard information, Wallet activity and advertising statistics that the customer sees.
While you are testing and experimenting, setup the Zone Modules so that only you can see them.
This is one of the best ways to discover whether your advertising program makes sense. A Package description that seemed perfectly obvious while you were creating it may suddenly become rather mysterious when viewed as a customer. The same applies to Zone names, prices, approval requirements and instructions. Testing the complete journey allows these small problems to be corrected before a real advertiser encounters them.
It is also worth testing more than the happy path. Enter something incorrectly. Change a Creative. Pause a Campaign. Try different advertising Zones. Allow Advertising Credits to be consumed and watch the Wallet Ledger. The objective is not simply to prove that WaypointAds works; it is to understand what your advertisers will experience when everything does not go exactly according to plan.
Start Simply
It can be tempting to create advertising opportunities for every available corner of a website before opening the doors to advertisers. Usually, a simpler beginning is better.
Choose several positions that provide genuine value to advertisers and create clearly defined Zones for them. Build Packages that are easy to understand and price them at levels appropriate for your website and audience. Once advertisers begin using the system, actual activity will provide far better information than speculation about which positions and Packages will prove popular.
WaypointAds is designed to grow with the advertising program it manages. A Zone that does not exist today can be added tomorrow. Pricing can evolve, new Packages can be introduced and renewal incentives can be added as relationships with advertisers develop. Existing Campaign arrangements can continue under their established terms while new advertising opportunities reflect the site's current pricing and strategy.
Watch What Happens
Once advertising begins to run, pay attention to the information WaypointAds collects. Impressions show how frequently advertising is being delivered, clicks provide an indication of visitor engagement, and Wallet activity shows how Advertising Credits are being consumed.
These figures can help identify which advertising positions are providing the greatest exposure and which Campaigns or Creatives are attracting attention. They can also help an Administrator decide whether a Zone is appropriately priced or whether an advertising Package provides the right amount of value.
Statistics should inform decisions rather than dictate them. A Zone with fewer impressions may still be commercially valuable if it appears alongside highly relevant content, while a prominent position generating many impressions may naturally command a different price. Understanding your own website and its audience remains just as important as reading the numbers.
Keep the Advertiser Experience in Mind
It is easy for an Administrator to become accustomed to the backend of a website and forget that advertisers see WaypointAds from an entirely different perspective. They are not thinking about components, modules, database tables or advertising-delivery engines. They want to know what advertising is available, what it costs, how to provide their advertisement and whether it is working.
Keep Package descriptions understandable, give Zones meaningful names, provide sensible instructions and make approval decisions promptly. Configure the WaypointAds email notification system with your site's name, logo and appropriate messaging so that communications are recognizable and professional.
A good advertising system should make the Administrator's work easier, but it should also inspire confidence in the people spending money through it. The advertiser should feel that they are dealing with your website and your advertising program, while WaypointAds quietly handles the machinery behind the scenes.
Review Your Advertising Program Occasionally
Advertising programs change. Website traffic grows, layouts are redesigned, popular sections emerge and advertisers develop different requirements. A configuration that was ideal when WaypointAds was first installed may not remain ideal forever.
Periodically review your Zones, Packages, pricing and renewal incentives. Remove advertising opportunities that no longer make sense and introduce new ones where appropriate. Review approval requirements as relationships with advertisers develop, and consider whether established customers require the same degree of supervision they needed when they first arrived.
WaypointAds provides the controls to make these changes without requiring the entire advertising program to be rebuilt every time the business develops.
Tell Us What You Discover
WaypointAds will continue to develop, and some of the most useful improvements can come from Administrators and advertisers using the system in circumstances we never anticipated.
If something takes more steps than you think it should, tell us. If a control could be clearer, tell us. If your advertisers repeatedly ask for something WaypointAds does not currently provide, we would like to know about that too. And if you have found an unusual way of using WaypointAds that works particularly well, we would be interested in hearing about it.
Real-world feedback is particularly valuable because good software development is not simply a matter of adding features. Sometimes the best improvement is simplifying an existing process, moving a control to a more logical location or providing information at precisely the point where an Administrator needs it.
Not every suggestion will necessarily become a feature, but understanding how people actually use WaypointAds helps guide future development toward improvements that solve genuine problems.
Your Advertising Program Starts Here
Installing WaypointAds and completing these tutorials is only the beginning. The real work—and hopefully the profitable part—starts when your advertising program begins serving real customers.
Start with what you need. Learn from what happens. Adjust your advertising opportunities as your website and customer base develop. Encourage successful advertisers to return, experiment with new placements when opportunities arise and use the controls within WaypointAds to build an advertising program appropriate for your particular site.
You do not need to master every feature before you begin. You now know where the controls are, how the major pieces fit together and where to return when you need a reminder.
The rest comes from using it. Set your campaigns on course, welcome your advertisers aboard, and see where WaypointAds takes you.
